Slam Dunk - Other UFO prizes by Banpresto

I have some other Slam Dunk UFO prizes that are not complete sets but are worth mentioning:

Here are 2 items from something more "interactive" plushes than the others I posted. In this case, you can write your name or something like that in the cardboard ball and hang them in your door.

This collection is named "Message Plush" in the tag.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-rukawa-sakuragi
Looking at them you can be sure what Ruwaka is thinking about Sakuragi when he says he's a genious XD

We can see in the back of the paper tag that there are other usable plushes like those doorknobs hangers!

Although I'm not pretty sure what are those Mitsui and Ryota for...

Tag says "Message Plush" so you can understand what this set is about.

Next, here's a little Rukawa made of taffeta. He's the only one I have from the complete set, which you can see in the tag photo.

Slam Dunk Series 3 by Banpresto (1994)

Let's get a look into the third set launched by Banpresto for Slam Dunk:

This time Shohoku shares more than half of the set with Ryonan school.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-sakuragi
Now he really looks confused here...

slam-dunk-anime-plush-rukawa
Rukawa looks friendlier than other sets... which is not right!

slam-dunk-anime-plush-akira-sendoh
Akira Sendoh always cool and friendly

Now here they come new characters:

Kicchou Fukuda - Power Forward from Ryonan.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-fukuda
Look at that expression! LOL

Jun Uozumi - Ryonan's captain. Almost as scary as Akagi.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-uozumi

Hikoichi Aida - He is somewhat a manager to Ryonan since he gathers a lot of intel about other players and teams.

His notebook says "Things to check" and then "Notes on Shohoku"

Slam Dunk Series 2 by Banpresto (1994)

Let's continue with some Slam Dunk plushes and their very funny faces:

The Group Shot

Dr. T.  - This character is a SD (Super Deformed) representation of Slam Dunk's author, Takehiko Inoue. In the anime you can see him a lot in the first episodes explaining some basketball rules and basics for the audience.

Our hero, Hanamichi Sakuragi

slam-dunk-anime-plush-sakuragi
"What are you looking at? Huh?"

The always cocky Kaede Rukawa...

"I don't want to pass the ball"

Our favorite and angry captain, Takenori Akagi:

slam-dunk-anime-plush-akagi
Who told you my name is Gori??!!

Mitsui comes to the plushes sets for the first time in this set.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-mitsui-
He looks very confident!

Also, here's Ryota Miyagi's debut too:

slam-dunk-anime-plush-ryota-miyagi
"Yes, I'm using an earring like everyone in the 90's"

Finally, here's Akira Sendoh from Ryonan High School. He is one of the first Shohoku's rivals in the story:

Unlike almost everyone in Shohoku, here's always very calm and easy-going.

Slam Dunk Series 1 by Banpresto (1994)

Here's the first Slam Dunk UFO plush set released by Banpresto in 1994

slam-dunk-plush-anime-banpresto
This set has one more Sakuragi in school uniform figure which I don't have.. yet.

The individual shots:

Hanamichi Sakuragi - Our protagonist has a little basketball net attached behind him which is a very nice detail for this figure.

slam-dunk-sakuragi-plush
That little sweat drop goot a little too under the forehead, now it seems like a tear...

Haruko Akagi - She's the girl who introduces Sakuragi to basketball and... to an eternal Friend Zone! XD

slam-dunk-haruko-plush
With that joyful expression when sees how tall Sakuragi can jump...

Takenori Akagi - Haruko's brother and Shohoku's captain.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-akagi
His nickname is "Gori" for.. Gorilla.

Kaede Rukawa - Best player of the team. He looks as annoyed as when someone wakes him up from a nap... riding his bicycle.

slam-dunk-plush-rukawa-kaede

Coach Anzai - A little less fatty than Series 4 but still is funny to look at him.

Finally, here's the one I don't own yet. Sakuragi with his school uniform:

Now let's look at the tags:

Front of tag with the "toru-toru catcher" and Banpresto logos.

Back of tag with characters names and little bio.

It seems that this ones have also a difficulty level of 3.

The one that started it all: Slam Dunk Series 4 by Banpresto (1995)

The first time I got into Yahoo! Japan I found this set in a listing starting with the ridiculous amount of 1 yen (less than 10 US cents!) and won it for 100 (less than 1 USD).

So I believe it was destiny...

After winning this, I just wanted to look for more Slam Dunk UFO plushes and other anime series as well.

slam-dunk-plush-group-banpresto
Looking at those funny faces makes you remember a lot of hilarious moments from the series. All of them have a plastic basket ball and cord shoelaces.

Now let's go to the individual presentations:

Hanamichi Sakuragi - Main protagonist and one of the best characters on any anime. He starts as a good-for-nothing student at Shohoku High School who starts playing basketball just to get attention from a girl he just met named Haruko Akagi.

Through the story he learns to love this sport and due to A LOT of self-confidence and perseverance, he becomes a key player for Shohoku.

slam-dunk-plush-anime-sakuragi
Shoelaces from one foot are gone T_T Also, the little sweat drop at the top of his head is an original touch!

Kaede Rukawa - The best player in Shohoku is the main rival for our protagonist not only because of his game skills but also because he gets all the attention from Haruko (although he really doesn't care at all about her) His only goal is to be the best player in Japan.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-rukawa
Is that look cocky enough for you?

Takenori Akagi - Captain of Shohoku and Haruko's older brother, which is not the best scenario for Sakuragi, since Akagi doesn't think of him as someone good enough to be in the team (at first).

slam-dunk-anime-plush-akagi
Sakuragi calls Akagi "Gori" for Gorilla. I don't know why.... XD

Hisashi Mitsui - Shohoku's Point Guard and the 3-point specialist.

slam-dunk-mitsui-plush
He needs to use the knee protection due to an injury that left him out of the team for 2 years.

Ryota Miyagi - He's Sakuragi's closest friend within the team. Because of his incredible speed and skills, he was nicknamed as "Lightning Flash Ryota" by some other players.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-ryota
I remember than during 90's there was some fashion custom where some men liked to use an earring, but, depending on which ear you used it, it could mean you were gay or straight...

Kiminobu Kogure - He is Shohoku's vice-captain and a good friend to Akagi since Middle School.

I'm pretty sure he's pointing up to something and not "giving the finger" to us...

Coach Anzai - One of the best basketball coaches in Japan. He is always calm but gives the exact advise that players need for their development. He has the nickname "The White-haired Buddha"

slam-dunk-anime-plush-anzai
The looks and how he laughs in the series gives you the impression that this character is based on Santa Claus!

Shinichi Maki - The captain of Kainan Basketball Team and probably the best player in the region. He is often made fun of by Sakuragi and his friends for looking older than his age.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-maki

Akira Sendoh - He's the ace of Kainan Basketball Team and also one of the best players in the region along with Maki. Rukawa sees him as his greatest rival.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-sendoh

Kenji Fujima
- He is the captain and coach of the Shoyo team. Maki is his best rival.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-fujima

Finally, let's check the tags. Since this UFO plushes don't come with a box like action figures does, tags are considered important to have a "complete" figure and to ensure that it's a licensed product.

slam-dunk-anime-plush-tag-front
Front of the paper tag. Blue logo at top says "Toru-toru catcher" which can mean "catch-catch catcher" so... let's leave it as Toru-toru, allright?

Back of paper tag with the 10 characters. Name and product code within parenthesis.

In the tag attached to the figure you can see the year of production.

On the back we have: plush code, number of series (IV) then "From Anime Series Slam Dunk", the author and company copyright info and finally, the difficulty level to obtain this plushes, being 3 for this ones.
